A third generation NAS graduate, Sophie Cape has gone a sprint cyclist and downhill skier to award winning professional painter. After completing her Bachelor of Fine Art, majoring in Painting in 2010, Sophie travelled to Paris through the Onslow Storrier National Art School Residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts, and has since won multiple awards and exhibited in Hong Kong, Paris, Poland and Berlin, as well as in Sydney where she is represented by Olsen Irwin Gallery.
Visceral and dramatic, Cape’s works are known for their vast scale, performative execution and cathartic expulsion of energy; a form of psychological self-portrait.
Of her time at NAS, she says “the National Art School will teach you so much about how you view the world. I would recommend the course to absolutely anybody.”
