Catherine O'Donnell

Graduating from NAS with an MFA in 2014, and completing the NAS British School at Rome residency, O’Donnell has been building to her impressive resume with a number of group exhibitions in Australia and in Italy, solo exhibitions at the Penrith Regional Gallery and the Murray Art Museum Albury, and a residency at Parramatta Artist Studios.

O’Donnell has been selected as one of six artists whose work will feature in the second Dobell Australian Drawing Biennial at the Art Gallery of NSW in 2016. Her work, usually in charcoal, presents highly detailed renderings of working class urban landscapes, often fibro houses or brick flats, leading viewers to consider the architectural vernacular and aesthetic poetry of these suburban houses.

Of NAS, she says: “NAS has a very strong drawing focus which was why I chose to do my postgraduate study there… The quality of the teaching staff is second to none.”
