The National Art School is delighted to partner with Carriageworks and Blacktown Arts Centre on the Solid Ground Initiative as the official Education Partner of this important program.
Solid Ground is a multi-year initiative established in partnership between Carriageworks and Blacktown Arts Centre to provide pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in NSW (City of Sydney & Blacktown) to enter into the Arts. The aim is for Year 11 Indigenous students to attend the NAS HSC Intensive Studio Practice program and perhaps be inspired to pursue a career in the arts by also undertaking the BFA at NAS.
To ensure all participants feel equipped and confident to engage in the program, Solid Ground and the National Art School ran two preliminary outreach days at Blacktown Arts Centre on 5 May and Carriageworks on 6 May for the Sydney Indigenous participants.
Students from both the Blacktown and Carriageworks workshops will be brought back together for an on-campus orientation day and workshop Monday 11 July before taking part in the HSC Intensive Studio Practice on Tuesday 12 July. We look forward to welcoming these students onto campus.
