This is an exclusive event at a reduced rate for teachers of the students who participated in the 2017 NAS HSC Intensive Studio Practice as a special thanks for your continued support of this worthwhile program. The one day Painting Workshop is an excellent opportunity for Professional Development as well as networking with like-minded peers.

During the morning session, a representative from Chroma will demonstrate acrylic painting techniques using their Australian-made Atelier acrylics and the new Atelier Free Flow range together with Atelier mediums. This will be a hands-on session where you will have the opportunity to experiment with various techniques and mediums. The afternoon session will give you an opportunity to put your newly learnt techniques into practice under the tutelage of artist Annabel Butler in a Masterclass based on Abstraction.

In the afternoon workshop you will explore expressive painting and increase your knowledge and understanding of the importance of colour, composition and form. Annabel Butler will guide you on how to abstract from source material so as to move away from realism towards a more expressive, abstracted painting style. She will reference a selection of Australian, American and European expressionist painters who sought to depict their emotional responses rather than an objective reality. Using acrylic paint and the Chroma mediums from the morning session you will be encouraged to experiment with colour, paint quickly and loosely and develop expressive brushwork.
