This artist-as-mentor course is for students with prior painting experience who want to develop their practice under the guidance of a professional artist in a supportive studio environment with other painters. Nick Collerson addresses your painting concerns, particularly those to do with drawing, compositional devices, colour-mixing and paint application. In addition to practical problems, he workshops your ideas and projects and discusses historical and theoretical aspects of painting. This is a great opportunity to expand your practice and reassess your artwork, with Nick offering his extensive experience and encouraging you to develop your own style, themes and vision. Intensive one-to-one teaching is supported by group critiques and conversations aimed at encouraging students to deepen their understanding of painting both conceptually and as part of rigorous studio practice.

Nick Collerson

Nick Collerson combines figuration and abstraction in his experimental, improvisational and poetic painting practice. Nick studied for a term at the Royal College of Art in London during his Masters of Fine Art, which he completed in 2013. Painting most days, Nick has a very active studio practice and has exhibited with the Hughes Gallery; he currently exhibits with Liverpool Street Gallery in Sydney. He is a lecturer in the Painting Department at the National Art School and also presents private courses.
