Peter Burgess studied Architecture at NSW Institute of Technology before studying Art and Education at Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education. He received his Master of Fine Arts from Pratt institute in New York in 1981.
He has had numerous solo shows, and exhibited extensively in group shows, in Australia, North America and Europe, including: Documenta 8 (Kassel, 1987) and The Decade Show (New Museum, NY, 1990), Australian Perspecta (AGNSW,1983), Prints and Australia – Presettlement to the Present (Australian National Gallery, 1989). His works are held in a number of National, State and Regional collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Museum of Contemporary Art, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery; New Museum of Contemporary Art, NYC.
Peter lived and worked in New York for more than twenty years and relocated to Sydney in 2000, where he is currently Head of Printmaking at the National Art School. He is represented by Milani Gallery, Brisbane.
