Volunteers and Interns


The National Art School Gallery, Sydney, is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to work across a variety of areas and provide support to the Gallery’s activities.

The NAS Gallery is a dynamic non-profit exhibition space featuring a program of multi-discipline group and solo exhibitions by Australian and international artists, including the end-of-year showcase of graduating students.

Volunteers are required to undertake front-of-house duties, and may also be asked to assist in exhibition preparation, events coordination and contribute towards the education and access aims of the Gallery. As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to work in a small friendly team and learn more about the National Art School and related activities, receive invitations to exhibition openings, lectures and special events, complimentary publications and library borrowing benefits.

We ask volunteers to work for at least one or two half days each fortnight and commit to the program for 12 months. Volunteer work takes place from 11.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Saturday. We are currently looking for volunteers to assist with our full program in 2017 starting in January with the exhibition Vernon Ah Kee: not an animal or a plant.

The NAS Gallery provides an internship program each year for a tertiary student or recent graduate with experience in the disciplines of Art History, Fine Arts, Curatorial Studies, Art Administration, Museum Studies, and other related fields. The internship provides opportunities to acquire practical experience in an active art gallery environment. We are currently not recruiting for interns, but update this information regularly, so please check back here and for future reference.
