NAS Appoints Michael Lynch

NAS is pleased to announce that Michael Lynch will be taking up the position of Interim Director in September for a six month position, after Director Michael Snelling departs for Hong Kong, where his wife Suhanya Raffel has been appointed the Director of the M+ Museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District.

Michael Lynch comes to NAS with a huge amount of experience; previously, he has held positions as Chief Executive of the Sydney Opera House, General Manager of the Australia Council and General Manager of the Sydney Theatre Company.

From 2002 to 2009, he was Chief Executive of London’s Southbank Centre and was responsible for the transformation of the Southbank cultural precinct. From 2011 to 2015 he was Chief Executive of the West Kowloon Cultural District, which will see a huge arts precinct built on Hong Kong‘s Victoria Harbour.

Michael was awarded the Order of Australia (AM) in 2001 and in 2008 he was named a Commander of the British Empire (CBE), both for services to the arts. Most recently, he was awarded the Sue Nattrass Award which honours exceptional service to the Australian live performance industry at the 2016 Helpmann Awards.

His exceptional arts administration skills have been welcomed by the staff and students of NAS, and we are very excited to have Michael on board.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported the annoucement here.
