The Drawing Exchange

A collaborative project of the National Art School, Sydney and the Adelaide Central School of Art.


In August 2017, more than 20 artists from across Australia will converge on the National Art School (NAS) in Sydney and Adelaide Central School of Art (ACSA) to create new, experimental drawings on the walls of both campuses, in an open-to-the-public exchange. There will also be live streams of video from Melbourne and Rome. See the link below.

To realise this ambitious project we need your help!

We are raising $5000 for the project through a crowdfunding campaign.

The artists creating and exhibiting at NAS are:
Jonathan McBurnie, Caroline Durre, Susannah Williams, Annelies Jahn, Zhen, Sally Clarke, Polly Joannou, Liz Bradshaw, Sasha Grbich and Roy Ananda.

The artists creating and exhibiting at ACSA are:
Daniel Connell, Joe Frost, Sally Parnis, Johnnie Dady, Rob Gutteridge, Margaret Roberts, Ben Denham, Wendy Murray, Yve Thompson, James Dodd, Christopher Orchard and Luke Thurgate

How you can engage with the Drawing Exchange:

August 7-11: General public access from 12.00 – 1.00pm each day.
The artists "at work" during the exchange week will produce experimental drawings in front of a live and changing audience in unique locations across the two sites. The audience will be able to observe and converse with the artists as they create their drawings.

August 9, 1.00 – 2.00pm:
Drawing Exchange artist, Jonathon McBurnie will give a lunchtime forum

August 11, 5.00 – 7.00pm
Launch of the project in the Hoff Project space, National Art School

August 11 – September 2:
Wall drawings will be on display at National Art School

August 11 (4.00 – 7.00pm)
August 18, 25 (10.00am – 4.00pm)
September 2 (10.00am – 4.00pm)
Susannah William’s virtual reality wall drawing will be active.
