Wednesday 4 May
1-2pm, NAS Gallery
Exhibiting artists Luke Parker, Sean Wadey and Mitchel Cumming discuss their works in this year’s Redlands Konica Minolta Art Prize. The artists speak more broadly about their practices, the thought-processes and creative investigations that drive them. They also reveal their opinions on emerging and established artists, art prizes and relationships among peers and the art world.
Luke Parker’s collages navigate the proliferation of images brought about by the advent of photo-mechanical reproduction and, drawing on his archive of images and found materials, he explores memories from personal experiences and shifts in perceptions. NAS MFA student Sean Wadey presents the juxtaposition of two and three-dimensional references in his large canvas, using industrial spray painting techniques with other approaches. Mitchel Cumming’s pared-back text-based practice for this exhibition took the form of a hand-tufted wool carpet made specifically for the NAS Gallery lift.
The artists' talks are presented in the Gallery, introduced and moderated by Judith Blackall, National Art School Gallery Curator/ Manager.
