ANITA TAYLOR Director, National Art School
Professor Anita Taylor makes drawings and paintings exploring the representation of female identities; notions of pleasure and sensuality; the private and the public; decoration and allegory; and the influence of scale on the reading of a work. Her practice includes exploratory and realised work in the form of invented paintings, drawings, prints, sketchbooks, notebooks, work from the model and self-portraiture.
Anita is also concerned with the development of knowledge and understanding in contemporary drawing, and is the founding Director of the Jerwood Drawing Prize, the annual exhibition for drawing in the UK.
Cockatoo Island
On an Island - selections from National Art School Drawing Week

Presentation of student work made during 2009 National Art School Drawing Week. Work by National Art School students will be installed across several sites on Cockatoo Island, which forms the inspiration and impetus for the week long workshops that are held on this historic and picturesque island in Sydney Harbour.
Cockatoo Island is situated at the junction of the Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers in Sydney Harbour.

On an Island is held in conjunction with A Field Guide, an exhibition of rarely seen drawings and props from the National Art School’s unique collection, on view at the National Art School Gallery, Darlinghurst, 7 May to 13 June.
