Printmaking

The NAS Printmaking department is a centre for the practice of:

  • intaglio

  • lithography

  • silkscreen-printing

  • relief printing

It draws from the long standing tradition of printmaking in Sydney, from contemporary practice and from the artistic talents of those who have worked or are working at the School.

Printmakers teach students how to address aesthetic and conceptual challenges using techniques and approaches which have been developed over centuries.

First Year students are introduced to essential concepts, skills and terminology of printmaking in an art historical context. Composition, content and creative possibilities are investigated with the aim of developing analytical decision making and ultimately for students to develop their own personal visual language.

Critiques, exhibitions, field trips, life models and portfolios complement research into relevant historical and theoretical areas.

Student awareness of the context in which their own art is placed informs their work and establishes their place in the contemporary mainstream of visual arts in Australia.
