The
NAS Intensive Studio Practice is a Board Endorsed
Extension Course for HSC Visual Arts students. The
purpose of the course is to provide an opportunity
for Year 12 students to enrich and extend their
study in the field of Visual Arts within specialised
disciplines. Students will be extended technically
and conceptually beyond the boundaries of their
school art making practice in a post-school setting
by working with a broad range of media and processes
under the direction of practising artists.
Who is the course available to?
The NAS Intensive Studio Practice Course
is open to Visual Arts students of all NSW
government and non-government schools who are
achieving at the highest level of excellence in the
Visual Arts Preliminary course.
When does the Intensive Studio Practice run?
The course runs parallel to the HSC
Visual Arts course. It is a 60 hour course which
consists of three modules:
Module 1
Tuesday 15 July - Friday 18 July 2008
Studio Workshop - Students complete one of the
following disciplines:
- Ceramics -
Photography - Digital Photography - Drawing - Painting -
Sculpture - Printmaking -
Module 2
Tuesday 7 October – Friday
10 October 2008
Studio Workshop - Students complete Stage II of
their chosen discipline
Module 3
Saturday 11 October 2008
Assessment, Critique and Exhibition
In Modules 1 and 2 the student will work under the
guidance of leading practitioners in the field.
Module 3 consists of 1 day during which students
will be involved in assessment and critique
procedures and in the preparation of a formal
exhibition of their work.
Application Process
Application information
for the next course will be distributed to all NSW
secondary schools in Term 1, 2009.

Please note that the work produced by each
student during the NAS Extension course will not
necessarily be related to the body of work
prepared for the HSC. While the student will be
able to use the technical and conceptual skills,
knowledge, understanding, values and attitudes
gained in their time at the NAS, they will not
resubmit their NAS work for HSC assessment and
examination.
HSC Credentialling
The National Art School
Intensive Studio Practice results will appear on the
HSC Certificate but will not be used in calculations
for the UAC Admissions Index.
