The Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA)
Honours is a one-year full-time coursework degree of
26 weeks taken over one academic year.
It is a studio-based degree offered as the final
year of an undergraduate program. The degree offers
an academic pathway to postgraduate study, preparing
students with the skills to undertake independent
research in the visual arts and to perform as
professional artists.
Educational Requirements To
be eligible for entry to the Bachelor of Fine Art
Honours program, candidates must have
- completed all the
requirements of a BFA from the NAS, or
equivalent from another institution, within the
last four years and
- completed a major in the area
of study in which they intend to complete the
Honours year, including any prerequisite
subjects, or equivalent from another institution
and
- maintained a credit average
in all subjects in their undergraduate studies
and a least a Distinction in Third Year Studio
Major, or equivalent from another institution
Course Structure
The course comprises three
subjects
- a Studio Major from
disciplines of Ceramics, Painting, Photography,
Printmaking, Sculpture and Drawing
- supported by the Studio
Seminar and
- Art History & Theory
Students
will extend their expertise in the following areas
- Technical and conceptual
skills
- Aesthetic and critical
judgment
- Historical, contemporary and
theoretical contexts relevant to individual art
practice
- Studio practice and
management of materials.
The duration of the
course is 26 weeks taught over two 13 week semesters
in one year.
